That Dare not Speak it's Name

I've noticed that each time I mention friends of mine in relevance to a question or subsequent post, the conversation comes to a complete standstill, why is this? Does the mere mention of these people, cause you to lose the ability to type, or converse as freely as you did before

I'm really curious to know as topics regarding child abuse, rape, incest and murder, are jumped on and devoured with relish.
However,if I mention Stevie and/or Damien and the topic dies.

You're kidding, right?

I'm curious to know how this can be explained other than a form of attention-seaking?

Sorry, I haven't noticed that, but you might be right.

I do remember thinking when you mention a friend of yours in a message that I'd like a little more information about them (i.e. their relationship to you, friend roommate son etc.), but can't say that I'd be any more reluctant to post a message where someone I didn't know was mentioned.

Sorry, no insult intended.

it certainly is not a form of attention seeking, as I can't stand attention seekers. It was curiosity an itch which needed scratching.

Bob why would more info make any difference? I think it's completely irrelevant.

It then puts your comments in perspective. Maybe that's why people don't respond, maybe they just don't understand the reference.

ah here we go again.

goblin's not getting enough attention I see. If one looks carefully, one will see that these boards are littered with such posts enquiring as to why people are not attending to goblin's cries for attention.

now let's see there was a post entitled "feckin ignorance" and one entitled "apothy" or something to that effect, one enquiring as to why no-one was interested in knowing about some horse or other and one enquiring as to why people were not interested in goblin's interest in wheelchair basket ball. And as I recall there was, in the earlier days, also a topic enquiring as to why people were replying in droves to the less inteligent posts, and yet no-one seemed to be interested in replying to the inteligent debate that goblin posts on these boards.

I think the reason is simple. they don't reply goblin, because you're the one posting. Because if people dare to make comments about anything you post they're jumped on and accused of being abusive. only nicey nicey sympathy posts are allowed.

oh and bob, Stevey is some "friend" of goblin's who introduced him to wheelchair basket ball and who goblin developed feelings for while his partner was apparently pregnant. When goblin decided to end the friendship stevey turned nasty and began stalking goblin, so goblin took matters into his own hands and approached stevey's university professors who assured him that stevey would be kicked off his college course (yeh right. they wouldn't even have been interested). but all changed when Ardeth had a miscarriage and stevey, hero styley, rushed to her aid and drove like a maniac to the hospital. all the stalking and nastyness forgotten, all were friends again - aw ain't that sweet.

oh yes, it's all over the boards.

The reference is very clear Bob, that is not the problem.

I wonder why no one is willing to own up to their problem.

Maybe they are not interested in responding to cryptic messages.

Cryptic? No they just lack the balls to answer honestly, because they dont want to reveal their ignorance in public, but wait.. that's already evident in previous examples of their inane babble

Hi Goblin. I'm not sure I understand. You're saying that if you mention a friend's name in a post everything comes to a standstill. Hmm. I can understand your curiosity on this. I'd be curious too. This is really weird. Maybe no one knows what to say, or maybe they don't know the person and can't comment either way. I don't know. I wouldn't see a reason why everything would just stop. Maybe your post will make everyone realize that things don't have to shut down simply because you've mentioned someone's name. And I will say this on Goblin's behalf. To me, there's nothing cryptic about his messages. Ok, I've said my stuff so I'll go. dl

I don't think Goblin was being cryptic about anything. I don't understand why things would come to a screeching halt if he mentions someone's name. Goblin,
